Has Baldurs Gate 3 Ruined Starfield?!?

*****MICROPHONE ISSUES UNTIL ABOUT 17 MINUTES IN*****

On this weeks ep we're discussing Baldurs Gate 3, Starfield, TMNT and 2k24! Check it!

[00:00:00] 7654321, you'll never have the sacred stone.

[00:00:05] Oh this you crazy mother-

[00:00:17] Alright welcome to this week's edition of Skip the Tutorial, number one video game podcast on the sword coast

[00:00:22] I'm one of your hosts this week, Bryant Splinter Daniels

[00:00:25] and joining me across the universe on Skype is none other than Todd BG Fortner. What's going on man?

[00:00:31] Good morning.

[00:00:33] Good morning.

[00:00:34] It's so crazy to hear that intro. It's been a minute, you know what I mean?

[00:00:40] I have to instantly give a shout out to Dewey and the homie Aaron who was talking about that before starting the show

[00:00:46] You know what I mean? Just STT triple OGs that's been with us from the beginning

[00:00:51] when it was just straight pod beam, Apple podcast, Spotify, staying away from YouTube.

[00:00:57] So yeah it is great to see you again man

[00:01:02] and I'm excited about some of the topics we're going to catch up on this Sunday morning on this beautiful Sabbath.

[00:01:08] How you doing brother?

[00:01:09] Man I'm good how about yourself Dewey?

[00:01:11] I'm so cool man. I thank you for giving me the BG name too man. They freed my boy BG.

[00:01:18] Yeah, it was hugging Birdman. You know what I'm saying? It was hugging real tight outside of prison.

[00:01:23] Look like a like an old like mobster movie or something after somebody did a 15 year bid and they stayed true.

[00:01:32] I think he gave that man like a million dollars. This is speculation but it looked like he gave him his cash money chain back

[00:01:38] You know being from Louisiana I was glad to see that man. So it's real ghetto.

[00:01:42] But I don't know man. I appreciate being able to have my own show. We could have goofy ass nicknames that we've been doing for years keeping the street going.

[00:01:50] So yeah man.

[00:01:52] What's good? Do you want to get straight to it though? Let's get straight to what inspired us to say okay we got to get up and actually ramp up and crank up the podcast again with this whole Starfield.

[00:02:04] Starfield Baldur's Gate 3.

[00:02:09] Like it's become the conversation of gaming really.

[00:02:15] Especially lately because you know you've got these two major releases that have dropped recently.

[00:02:21] Baldur's Gate 3 first dropping and then Starfield the new Bethesda game that is not Skyrim again.

[00:02:28] Well is it? Is it really just Skyrim? That's the question.

[00:02:33] That's the question we want to answer today and we want to talk a little bit about.

[00:02:36] Baldur's Gate 3 itself is a, I don't know Todd. We've been playing it. I mean you've been playing it a lot.

[00:02:44] And the game of the year conversation so let's get to the big point like the game of the year conversation keeps going around it.

[00:02:50] Some people calling it the game of the decade. The game of the 21st century.

[00:02:55] There's a lot of conversation around how good Baldur's Gate 3 is. I know I played it first with Bob and then you jumped on when it dropped on PS5.

[00:03:02] You've been playing it with Sarah. I want to know your feelings about it first.

[00:03:07] Just raw feelings about it.

[00:03:10] Okay so first things first, I have never and thought I would never really be able to get into a true turn based game.

[00:03:19] We talked about that several times. The closest I got to it was Final Fantasy, the recent remake 7 where it had turn based aspects but it was still an action based game so it kept my attention.

[00:03:32] And this will be the year that I do after preface. Part of the issue was I kind of told myself I'm an abstain from 2K24 for personal reasons.

[00:03:41] We'll probably touch that a little bit later in the show and it's a video about this so I'm not going to get into that.

[00:03:46] But it was perfect timing for Baldur's Gate 3 to come out for me to give it a try making an investment.

[00:03:51] And I had recent conversations with friends about D&D experiences. You told me about it, the fact that I got a chance to watch you on Bioplay.

[00:04:00] I said okay I'm going to go ahead and make the investment. And right now I got about 30 hours into it and I'll talk about not a negative per se but where I could see where the grind could be, where it's a difficult game.

[00:04:13] But for me personally it's easy. It's my game of the year. I haven't played the Zelda game this year. I really don't have intentions to but I think it would just be difficult to create.

[00:04:24] I mean these games don't come around often and it's easily game of the year just because I've had so much fun with it. It's really one of the most fun games I've ever played in my life so far.

[00:04:35] And especially maybe part of it is the Spleed Screen Co-op. I gave it a lot of credit for running perfectly on PS5.

[00:04:42] I wouldn't say it runs perfectly on PS5 right now on the Spleed Screen Co-op side. But it's giving me the most fun as far as role play with my character and getting into it like building a high health elf with warlock subclass and trying to learn all the mechanics of it, the can trips and what it means and navigating the chess board of it all.

[00:05:03] I still have not had sex with anybody. I still ain't had to see no digital titties and nothing like that. You know what I'm saying? So I'm a little disappointed by that.

[00:05:13] But my initial impression with 30 hours in basically is this easily game of the year. Now I've rambled a little bit. What's your perspective on it?

[00:05:24] So my perspective on this is a long time D&D fan and as a long time D&D player that's what this is. It is a D&D campaign in a box, in a video format. That's essentially what it is. You have freedom of choice.

[00:05:38] There's very few things that Baldur's Gate 3 and that's what I love about this game and that's what I think a lot of people are connecting with is there are very few things in this game that the game tells you know you can't do that.

[00:05:51] Sure sometimes you have to figure out a way to get around some of that but yeah there are very few parts in this game where it just says no, you're not allowed to do that. There's no walls here.

[00:06:02] You can explore virtually anywhere on the map that you can get to. You can talk to anybody. You can talk to animals if you have animal speaking and even from that you can learn different conversations.

[00:06:15] I mean we followed, there was an ox in that first little town where all the refugees were. We talked to that ox. It turns out he was more than just what he seemed to be and then when we got out and then to act too the ox showed up in that protected town and I talked to him again and I was like you're not who you say you are ox.

[00:06:33] He's like oh I was trying to hide it but you caught me and then he turns into something else and I won't spoil it and he starts a fight as usual. Like that's what this game sometimes they just start a fight.

[00:06:45] You can get in combat situations where right now me and Bob have convinced three bosses to kill themselves instead of us fighting them and that's been awesome and you still get the same XP for it.

[00:06:58] You still get the same rewards but it's like okay if I can convince them through persuasion checks to kill themselves instead of me doing it then that's what I'm going to try to do.

[00:07:08] Which is pretty amazing. The story really does unfold in a way and me and Bob hit act three the last time we played on Friday night. We're going to be playing more today.

[00:07:19] But I'll say this. This is one of the best story rate in games I've ever played. The way it unfolds itself, the way that it reveals the details, the way that it uses the characters and interlaces it throughout the game to where you're getting pieces of the story from different perspectives until you get to a crucial point and they give it all to you kind of at once.

[00:07:41] They kind of tell you everything that's going on.

[00:07:44] In a way but...

[00:07:46] That's what she said and real quick just hold that thought I don't want to interject. I got to acknowledge Aaron real quick because he says in the chat no sexy bears or trolls come on time.

[00:07:54] I know not yet. There was a sexy troll in John Ogre experience I ran into while I ended up killing everybody.

[00:08:02] I want to shout out to Aaron as well as far as football is concerned. I may be trying to catch it but I think my next play through is going to be as a coach prime character based on what Colorado is doing right now.

[00:08:15] But I didn't mean to interrupt so much. I just had to acknowledge him real quick because the no sexy troll of bear time. I'm not trying to fuck the trolls with bears.

[00:08:24] I was more after Shadowheart or Carlot. You know what I'm saying? At least you had some shit going on but I'm at a point right now where there's a decision that I'm pissed off about and I've gone back and forth about.

[00:08:34] But I interjected and you know I didn't mean to interrupt your thought my brother. Definitely continue with your perspective on the greatness of Bob the Gay.

[00:08:44] And then it's you know the story is going to go somewhere. I've purposely kept myself from trying to see if there's multiple endings because I just want to see what happens with this first play through.

[00:08:57] But I will say this the choices that you make in Baldur's Gate 3 have real weight and consequence to them. You can completely lock off areas. You can get rid of party members in your camp.

[00:09:10] If you make the wrong choice, if they don't like something, you can completely disrupt your path. You can skip whole fights, whole sections, whole bosses.

[00:09:21] This game is about choice and storytelling which is what D&D is. D&D is about choice and storytelling and having fun with your friends.

[00:09:29] Now that's what I'll say about this where this game really shines is the multiplayer. The multiplayer is the biggest aspect of this game that's just absolutely insanely built to such a beautiful way.

[00:09:42] I've never really come across a multiplayer experience quite like this where me and Bob will both stop while we're playing because the dialogue's going.

[00:09:52] And we want to hear what's actually being said because the voice acting is so good, the storytelling is so good, the writing is so good. I want to actually pay attention to the conversation.

[00:10:00] And we're both paying attention because we want to know what to do next and we'll sit there and weigh out decisions sometimes when it comes to like dialogue choices. What should we do next?

[00:10:09] I even have a D20 that sits on my desk that sometimes if we can't figure it out I'll roll the D20 and I'll be like this is low, this is high and let's roll this sucker.

[00:10:19] I mean it's just with D&D becoming more mainstream with the movie that came out earlier this year Honor Among Thieves which was an incredibly fun. It's still in my top five of the year.

[00:10:31] Like I've watched it, I don't know how many times at this point.

[00:10:34] It inspired me. It was better than expected and I appreciated the bootlegory aspect of it. You know what I'm saying? That was spot on. Absolutely.

[00:10:43] And so like D&D is becoming more mainstream. I remember in high school being a little bit bully, not really but more of like people kind of looking at me funny when I said I played D&D and Magic the Gathering.

[00:10:53] Those things are now becoming mainstream and people are starting to understand hey this is a fun way to have a good time. I mean you can have fun with your friends.

[00:11:01] Yeah I was saying motherfucker that might have tried to bully somebody because due to my insecurity so I get it brother that's part of what is beautiful about the podcast so yeah for sure.

[00:11:09] Absolutely. Now I'm chasing the after they want to be a part of it.

[00:11:14] I mean there's nothing wrong with that. It's like in my mind it's like the more that come in, the more that are welcome to enjoy and to have fun and to really see kind of what the beauty of this is which is it's a shared experience.

[00:11:26] It's a shared storytelling experience. Would I want to play this single player? Probably not. Just being honest. After playing Baldur's Gate 3 for 50 something hours co-op I don't think I'd ever want to play this game.

[00:11:38] Like that would just be 100% not my thing right now in my life. I'm starting to learn about myself as a gamer a little bit and I'm starting to learn that there are certain games I like to play single player and there are certain games that must like they demand the attention of co-op play.

[00:11:59] Baldur's Gate 3 for me is the one that demands the attention of co-op play because that's where you're going to have your most fun.

[00:12:06] I definitely think you need to go into Baldur's Gate with some kind of game plan to get more entertainment and more joy out of it. You want to go into it with that role playing aspect in your mind ahead of time.

[00:12:18] It has brought like a first time for me, I think I got close to it was like Dragon Age Inquisition type of game but this is just master work and like you said in the writing aspects and the choices that you have to make and how it does box you in as far as hey you're going to have to make one.

[00:12:35] You're going to have to make hard choices is going to be one way or the other like there's no easy way out and that's kind of the beauty of it in this life.

[00:12:41] And part of the reason why my run is going on is because to be honest I don't judge what is it to save scumming situation.

[00:12:49] Like where you just say but I get it it was like you know we've been going to this point we came to a hard decision is like trying to go back and fix it.

[00:12:57] We just looked at each other today and we're like OK look we wasting time now is at this point we'd have to start all the way over.

[00:13:04] We just got to go ahead and suck it up and go with what happens and to me that's the beauty of the game in a lot of ways.

[00:13:10] That's a big part of the masterpiece of the writing writing and we've seen like OK if you leave this person at the camp and you go here how the story can play out in the 10,000 different ways.

[00:13:20] So it's beautiful. Now I don't want to segue too early into it but it does leave me to try to be even more curious or I am more curious about Starfield because I was looking forward to Starfield.

[00:13:34] You know I was playing for Game Pass years and I just recently gave it up.

[00:13:38] It just wasn't off of me what I needed.

[00:13:40] I was getting more out of my PlayStation to be honest.

[00:13:42] It's just integrated into my life better.

[00:13:44] But when it Starfield came out I'm playing Baldur's Gate finally it comes out on console.

[00:13:50] And I'm longing for it but it initially gets 7 out of 10 from IGN.

[00:13:55] And you know when we initially talked about it I know you were excited about it and I was thinking to myself immediately like I'm a probably like Starfield regardless.

[00:14:04] But I know you've had a chance to deal with Starfield and Baldur's Gate so your perspective is imperative on like what's going on.

[00:14:12] You know how should people be spending their money this year on gaming.

[00:14:16] Yeah so Starfield for me Todd is it's the Bethesda experience right.

[00:14:22] That's what it ultimately comes down to is it is the Bethesda experience in a nutshell over and over and over again.

[00:14:31] There are some things that I really love about this game.

[00:14:33] There are some things I don't enjoy some of the repetitive aspects.

[00:14:37] I think I've put about 7 hours into Starfield at this point through Games Pass and what I'll say is I'm liking it a whole lot more than I did initially.

[00:14:47] I think the big issue with Starfield is it's a much more casual game than Baldur's Gate 3 is.

[00:14:56] It's a much more casual game than I think some gamers want these days.

[00:15:01] For me it's not a very difficult you know it's got its moments.

[00:15:08] The combat feels good.

[00:15:10] Let me talk about the positives.

[00:15:11] The combat feels good.

[00:15:12] The actual ship flying I kind of enjoy overall even though I will say that something like No Man's Sky has done it better.

[00:15:21] You know the dialogue options are okay.

[00:15:24] The characters themselves the animations all kind of look like they use the same face and copy and paste it over and over again.

[00:15:31] Which is fine.

[00:15:32] But the thing I will say that I like about Starfield more than I think some people would was the I do like that casual experience.

[00:15:42] I like the ability to turn on a game that I can just kind of walk around in getting to combat scenarios.

[00:15:49] Find different little aspects that are hidden and you know explore caves explore areas where normally I wouldn't be you know it doesn't feel necessarily on the road.

[00:16:01] There's some fun elements to it.

[00:16:03] There's some great there's some great little interactions between me and my crew the ship building I haven't really gotten into but I've seen some people build and you know it does have those moments that look pretty fun.

[00:16:16] And I do want to build the enterprise from Star Trek.

[00:16:19] I ain't gonna lie.

[00:16:20] But what I will say is it's going to depend on what you're looking for.

[00:16:25] Do you want a deep Skyrim like experience?

[00:16:28] Well you're not going to get that with Starfield.

[00:16:30] That's probably because what it suffers from is they've essentially stretched something like Skyrim over the entire universe.

[00:16:41] I guess that's the best way to put it is they've stretched themselves pretty thin with the map and the exploration.

[00:16:48] The one thing I will say that is getting a little disappointing is going to different planets and kind of running into the same environments over and over again.

[00:16:56] It seems like you've either got desert, barren or ice and that's kind of what it feels like.

[00:17:02] And don't get me wrong that's probably more true to the universe than no man's sky is with what I understand.

[00:17:10] There's very few planets that are quite like Earth but at the same time that doesn't always make for good gaming.

[00:17:17] But what?

[00:17:18] And it says space Batman.

[00:17:20] Space Batman.

[00:17:21] You can make what you want man.

[00:17:23] I mean you can, that's the cooler part about it too is you can affect the storyline itself.

[00:17:31] That's one of my favorite parts is you can affect the storyline itself by not storyline but the way you interact with the story by choosing some of your character traits.

[00:17:41] Like I chose to be a space scoundrel so every now and then I'll be flying along or like on a planet and bounty hunters will show up to try to like attack me

[00:17:51] and try to capture me for my bounty which I think is kind of fun.

[00:17:57] But there's other things too like the grind on, I've heard some people complain about the grind on the actual skill tree itself.

[00:18:04] I don't really have a problem with that.

[00:18:06] I don't have an issue with that because it seems like the leveling is almost moot.

[00:18:11] You know I'm a level three attacking, well now I'm a level seven but I was a level three attacking like level 12 and 13s and having no problems with it at all.

[00:18:20] Let me ask you this question because I heard something recently like somebody that was 36 hours into the game was saying that it didn't start opening up to them until then.

[00:18:32] I've heard some of the issues recently like the biggest gripes is it takes 15, 20 hours for the game to even open up and for actual casual gamers.

[00:18:40] That's who are maybe like bombing the game and giving it a 2.8 on Xbox because they're you know not willing to give up 20 hours of their life for a game to open up.

[00:18:51] So like can you see that as well like as far as you know there's because I can already kind of tell maybe that's the idea of what Starfield is supposed to be.

[00:19:01] Starfield is supposed to be that game that launches on and gives them 10 years worth of games past subscriptions.

[00:19:08] That's what I could feel already so that whole dichotomy of the love hate like I haven't seen a game like this affect like the culture and you know gaming is the biggest entertainment culture we got it's 221 million is like triples everything else so this is like a big deal.

[00:19:24] I've never, I don't think I've ever seen a game this important kind of have such a love hate thing.

[00:19:32] Like can you see that being one of the reasons why because some faithful people that have played it maybe it was free got it on gameplay is paid it for 24 hours and it opened up they found a secret base on this planet that they didn't expect and they ended up spending 12 hours playing.

[00:19:46] And then you have some people that were like had it so hyped up Todd Howard is a lot to us Todd Howard personally lie to us and quake kind of couple years ago before fallout 76 came out and we were all excited.

[00:19:57] We met the developers of you know doom which was amazing and then fallout 76 came out they had all them weird ass races that white people man's can shit that freaked me to fuck it out but I went for the ride and it was cool tie how we make behind and then fallout 76 comes out.

[00:20:13] And it takes four or five years for it to be a good game or whatever.

[00:20:17] So like with all of that like what do you think is going on with the dichotomy of it so we can maybe get back to why I think automatically that it does suffer from bothers day three being surprisingly you know overwhelmingly great but like the fact that what was it how many concurrent players

[00:20:36] did Starfield have when he came out.

[00:20:38] I was reading on that yesterday.

[00:20:40] A billion of some shit.

[00:20:42] Yeah it was it was pretty high up there.

[00:20:44] And then I will say it was overwhelmingly positive on steam when it first drops.

[00:20:49] And now it's just dropped down to positive so it's gone from like an 89% approval to like a 70 something percent approval.

[00:20:57] Todd to get to your point though I really do think that like on Xbox Microsoft the Xbox Microsoft people did you see how it was 2.8.

[00:21:04] Yeah.

[00:21:05] How they bombed it.

[00:21:06] Yeah that's which was crazy to me like I don't get there unless it was you know fake review by me.

[00:21:13] Well and that's for me is like there's always a truth in the middle there's always somewhere in the middle that it's going to be relevant more so is it a casual game for the most part at the beginning.

[00:21:26] Yeah it feels very casual though doesn't feel like there's very high stakes in anything you do.

[00:21:30] I can save scrum my way through see what people do to react then go back and reload my save it's not a big deal.

[00:21:39] It doesn't feel like there's choices that you make in the game are very weighted they don't feel like they have a lot of weight to them.

[00:21:45] Now what I will say is I am looking forward to the game that's going to open up and you know I've heard the same thing I've heard 25 30 hours you get into the game suddenly opens up.

[00:21:57] And that's what I'm looking forward to is is everybody going to make it to that point no could I see why.

[00:22:02] Yeah absolutely not everybody's got time for me I have time I'm very selective about what I play now I try not to play everything under the sun.

[00:22:10] And if I can find a game that I can sit on the couch with on my laptop while my wife watches Virgin River on Netflix or you know it's a it's a soap opera time.

[00:22:23] That's basically what it is it's a soap opera and I can sit there.

[00:22:28] Is it a river with a bunch of verdicts on it. No no they just call it.

[00:22:32] Okay I know my we can continue we can continue then.

[00:22:35] It's based off of book series.

[00:22:36] But you know while she's watching what she wants to watch I'm not capitalizing the television I can play on my laptop and just play some Starfield.

[00:22:47] I mean that's where I got like five hours in last night was just playing that by myself and I was enjoying it.

[00:22:53] I actually was enjoying it overall is it going to win game of the year.

[00:22:58] No does it suffer from Baldur's Gate 3. Absolutely it absolutely had Baldur's Gate 3 not come out and really just like started a wildfire in the gaming industry now that being said.

[00:23:11] Then what does it give it an extra point.

[00:23:13] IGN all of a sudden gives it eight out of ten instead of a seven out of ten.

[00:23:17] I think so but it's hard to give Starfield the seven out.

[00:23:20] I mean eight out of ten when Baldur's Gate exists and it offers so much for so little relative to what's going on across the gaming industry in general from micro transactions to just the whole way we play and just the legitimate empirical things that you get with the guy.

[00:23:36] Yeah like I think ultimately you do get the eight out of ten if Baldur's Gate 3 doesn't exist because I think people view it a little bit differently.

[00:23:44] I think people look at it and go well it's not as bad as Cyberpunk or No Man's Sky when it released those games are now really big.

[00:23:51] Cyberpunk's about to release what's it called Cyberpunk 2.0.

[00:23:55] This Phantom and Phantom Liberty is coming out of makes you excited about that you got it is Elba on there.

[00:24:02] I'm kind of excited about that.

[00:24:04] Yeah.

[00:24:06] I am the last man standing in Elba.

[00:24:09] Like I'm about to redownload it I think because I was like I want to see what this looks like.

[00:24:14] But you know and we know Bethesda but Bethesda generally supports their games pretty well and so I can see where this game is going to be versus where it is now.

[00:24:25] I think the intro experience is going to rub a lot of people the wrong way and I understand that.

[00:24:30] But you know for me it's kind of the perfect I played a couple hours a day I'm fine like maybe an hour a day you know and I'll enjoy my time with it.

[00:24:39] I'll keep exploring until I find something interesting and you know like even it's kind of fun to pick different planets and see if you can't land.

[00:24:46] I landed on earth last night just to see what it looked like in its desert right now.

[00:24:52] Of course.

[00:24:54] I feel that way.

[00:24:55] Chad says have you not done the Mantis quest line?

[00:24:59] No I haven't done that yet.

[00:25:01] That's gotta be Starfield.

[00:25:03] Yeah I keep getting distracted.

[00:25:05] I keep getting distracted in a game by different planets.

[00:25:08] I landed on the moon and I was like let me see what the moon looks like and that was cool.

[00:25:12] Well one more question about your experience so far because I heard this is where I feel like it is and that's how I would have approached it and will approach it when I eventually play it.

[00:25:22] It is like set up to where it's not really set up for you to run through the main story.

[00:25:26] You really do want to do all the other aspects of it decide you know missions to build in the ships really getting into it.

[00:25:33] Nerding out and building the Star Trek Enterprise whatever the fuck.

[00:25:37] I think somebody did a Star Wars destroyer or something.

[00:25:41] Someone did a War Cube.

[00:25:42] I thought that was dope.

[00:25:44] They built the War Cube.

[00:25:46] Right so do you get those aspects from it with your initial impression?

[00:25:50] Like the game is designed to distract you.

[00:25:53] The game is designed to distract you.

[00:25:55] Okay so I'm on the first main quest if you will where I've gone to Constellation which is the name of the organization that you recruited by to go find because that's kind of the precipice of the story is there's these ancient artifacts spread throughout this galaxy

[00:26:11] and you're trying to find these ancient artifacts to see what they do.

[00:26:15] It's kind of the ultimate human experience where it's like hey there's this thing we found in interacts with other artifacts.

[00:26:21] We don't know why let's go find all of them so that we can see what happens when we do this right.

[00:26:28] It's a human element.

[00:26:29] There's that's about as deep as the story goes for now which sounds like something a human would do like hey I found this thing.

[00:26:37] It's like the concept in Baldur's Gate.

[00:26:39] I found a lever let me pull it to see what happens and sometimes something terrible happens and sometimes something good happens.

[00:26:46] But what I'll say is I've got a companion right now on my crew and she's from Constellation.

[00:26:52] She's like I'm going to go with you on this first mission and I was like oh okay.

[00:26:56] And so we get to the point where we're going to the second part of the mission and a dialogue option pops up and one of my responses is forget the mission I want to land on the moon.

[00:27:05] And I click that and she's like oh yeah that's fine.

[00:27:08] Like that sounds like a good time.

[00:27:10] Let's go do that.

[00:27:11] That's kind of what she says in response.

[00:27:13] So it's the game telling you yes.

[00:27:15] Go enjoy.

[00:27:16] Go explore.

[00:27:17] Go look at things.

[00:27:19] Whereas in Baldur's Gate if you click that lever Hyena might give birth to a werewolf that goes and fucks a bear.

[00:27:28] In front of a teetling child who you chose to kill the rest of the family.

[00:27:35] It like triggers this domino effect of horrible and beautiful things at the same time.

[00:27:40] Yes.

[00:27:41] Whereas Starfield might be a little bit more you know hey you can pew pew if you want to open up like maybe a great balance of dichotomy.

[00:27:48] You know not the master but something that could finally be distinctive to Microsoft finally.

[00:27:54] For all of the people that have been loyal and have you know rolled with Microsoft I had to get off the Microsoft vote with the 360 when I went through three 360s with the red ring of death.

[00:28:05] When I was managing the game stop and I had all the systems and I just went ahead and switched over I said that had that conversation with you a million times but deep down like I am a Microsoft person.

[00:28:16] Do you feel like this game does give them like even though it may not come out to the best you know fanfare it's not anthem per se like it gives us something to look forward to with Game Pass and Xbox.

[00:28:29] Yeah I do.

[00:28:31] I really I think it's unique enough.

[00:28:34] I think it stands out enough on its own.

[00:28:37] I think it's going to get better over time and it's it's going to be like Fallout 76.

[00:28:42] I mean that's what I see the same trajectory as this fall at 76 comes out everybody's completely underwhelmed talks about how trashy it is.

[00:28:50] And now it's got a huge fan base there's still a ton of people playing that game and I jumped into fall at 76 for about 10 hours just to see and I can see why it's got that Starfield element to it.

[00:29:02] It's the casual experience.

[00:29:04] And if you look back at games like I mean I really think that with Fallout 4 while I enjoyed Fallout 4.

[00:29:13] I think Bethesda got away from quote unquote hardcore gaming with fall out for it was a more broad casual affair at that point.

[00:29:23] And I think they kept down that path because they saw their audience grow because you got to think Fallout 1, Fallout 2 and Fallout 3.

[00:29:29] They're pretty hardcore experiences.

[00:29:32] Fallout 1 is still a very difficult game.

[00:29:36] And I think they saw that they could gain more with their audience and kind of become a little bit broader if you will because you're talking about a studio that started out making CRPGs and then Skyrim while not a casual experience is played by everybody because of the exploration elements.

[00:29:54] And what you see with with Starfield is a combination of all of it.

[00:29:58] That's what it is.

[00:29:59] It's a combination of all of it and it takes a little bit from No Man's Sky and it takes a little bit from Destiny 2 and other space games.

[00:30:07] And you know, it tries to boil down like the space flight and combat to a simplified version of what they do in No Man's Sky.

[00:30:17] And I think that's, you know, that was their choice.

[00:30:21] I know a lot of people are mad you can't land and take off off of planets.

[00:30:24] I get it.

[00:30:25] But at the same time, it doesn't really bother me.

[00:30:28] I don't care.

[00:30:29] I'm not here to play No Man's Sky because No Man's Sky has built its own game over the last whatever six or seven years that has become this huge thing.

[00:30:39] I tried to go into No Man's Sky and play for another about 25 or 30 hours.

[00:30:44] There's a lot you can do in No Man's Sky, but that is truly not a narrative driven game.

[00:30:49] Starfield is trying to balance a narrative driven game with a space exploration game.

[00:30:53] And I think they struck kind of a middle cord that works for them.

[00:30:57] And I still want to build Ford until dawn.

[00:31:03] I would love to build the Ford until dawn.

[00:31:05] Like absolutely.

[00:31:07] I'm going to build some ships.

[00:31:10] Like once I get in there, I'm all built some ships.

[00:31:13] But what I'll say is, you know, in a year from now, I bet people change their mind.

[00:31:17] I really do.

[00:31:18] Right.

[00:31:19] I really think that's going to happen.

[00:31:21] A year from now, people are going to be like, Hey, Starfield's fantastic now.

[00:31:24] As they're saying about cyberbond is no man's gun.

[00:31:27] Is Riley O was right.

[00:31:28] Trials and then Riley O was completely correct.

[00:31:31] And Starfield is the bees knees if you will.

[00:31:35] It's the best thing since fucking peanut butter and jelly.

[00:31:38] No, I don't think so.

[00:31:40] Where you at?

[00:31:41] Where you at?

[00:31:42] There you go.

[00:31:43] I really don't think it's peanut butter.

[00:31:46] I mean, it's, it's, it's, it's a game that's kind of where I like it's a game.

[00:31:55] Well, look, how about this?

[00:31:56] Let's be fair to because if we both have heard it takes a lot of hours to get into it.

[00:32:01] And you plan on dealing with it.

[00:32:02] We may revisit it.

[00:32:04] But I think we both come to the consensus that a big part of some of the

[00:32:08] shitting on Starfield might be undue due to the greatness of Baldur's Gate.

[00:32:14] It's just too hard to ignore Baldur's Gate.

[00:32:16] Like it's too hard to ignore the story and everything that it offers

[00:32:20] and what come with it.

[00:32:21] I don't think, and there gotta be different experiences.

[00:32:24] And I'll say the difference between them is Baldur's Gate three fills like,

[00:32:30] okay, you got two houses on the neighborhood.

[00:32:32] Right.

[00:32:34] Um, you've got two houses in the neighborhood.

[00:32:37] One of them's got a lot of pretty stuff in it that you can't touch and it's

[00:32:40] always clean and the other one's got three dogs, a bunch of stuff.

[00:32:44] It's clean, but it can be a little messy, but it feels like a home.

[00:32:48] That's the difference Baldur's Gate three feels like a home.

[00:32:51] Starfield almost feels like an interactive museum in some ways.

[00:32:54] And that's okay.

[00:32:56] There's a little bit of soul missing from Starfield.

[00:33:00] Not to soul, my boy.

[00:33:01] Not to soul.

[00:33:02] Chesed, do you hate not having a local map?

[00:33:06] Yes, that drives me absolutely crazy.

[00:33:08] There's some areas you get into.

[00:33:10] You don't have a map for it.

[00:33:12] And like, it's just absolutely some of those mines and some of those

[00:33:17] like power locations I can get lost in because I'm like, how do I get out of here?

[00:33:21] And then I have to turn my scanner on and turn on another mission point

[00:33:25] just to get out of there.

[00:33:27] Because you turn the scanner on and it'll show you the steps you're supposed to take

[00:33:30] like on the ground, but then they disappear after me.

[00:33:33] It drives me nuts.

[00:33:34] I don't like having a, I like having a map so I can also see what areas

[00:33:38] I've already explored versus what I haven't.

[00:33:40] And that kind of drives me a little bit insane too.

[00:33:45] So yeah, they need to fix the map.

[00:33:47] They really need to fix the whole UI of it.

[00:33:50] The inventory management, all that stuff.

[00:33:53] It can become very complicated.

[00:33:55] Like instead of transferring stuff to my ship or to my companion just easily,

[00:34:00] I have to go talk to my companion.

[00:34:03] I have to go, hey, can we trade?

[00:34:06] And then she's like, oh yeah, you can, I'll take stuff and carry it for you.

[00:34:11] And then I transfer all the elements to her that I picked up all mining stuff

[00:34:15] or I have to go to my ship and then go sit in the cockpit

[00:34:20] and then click on the inventory.

[00:34:22] Like it's a very, it's a complex, some of that stuff needs to be worked out.

[00:34:27] Some of its way more complicated.

[00:34:29] But I mean you stated it.

[00:34:30] You think like through the modern community in just in a year,

[00:34:33] you feel like all those things would be ironed out.

[00:34:35] Yeah.

[00:34:36] I mean, I think Baldur's Gate 3 had an advantage on that

[00:34:38] like with the way they were able to release the betas is a lot of,

[00:34:41] you know, and I might be speculating a little bit with that,

[00:34:43] but I think they laid it out.

[00:34:46] And I played original Divinity Sand 2, you know what I'm saying?

[00:34:49] Divinity original Sand 2, excuse me.

[00:34:52] But, and you know, I had trouble getting all the way into it.

[00:34:55] So like this was like the perfect experience and the perfect timing

[00:34:58] to get me into it, which like I don't want to spend a lot of time into,

[00:35:02] but I want to thank Baldur's Gate 3 that type of game and everything else

[00:35:05] for kind of helping me with my 2K addiction.

[00:35:08] Yeah.

[00:35:09] I'm missing 2K 24 so bad right now.

[00:35:13] I'm missing it so bad right now.

[00:35:15] My cousin infamously made the call last night.

[00:35:18] My boy, I love him to life.

[00:35:20] The great 2K player, DZD, he was like, man, you're not getting the 2K 24 this year?

[00:35:25] Listen, I made a commitment a month ago that just alone,

[00:35:30] not based on anything else other than just the micro transactions alone.

[00:35:35] You can catch it in the video, the NBA 2K 24 ran on the channel.

[00:35:39] That gives a little bit more depth, but it just,

[00:35:44] I'm missing it right now because the game looks great.

[00:35:47] The gameplay looks great.

[00:35:48] Last year's game 2K 23 was great.

[00:35:51] You know, I got dub 2K since say I wouldn't really say that,

[00:35:55] but I do do some golden stuff that there's there's things you can see,

[00:35:59] you know, about the crack.

[00:36:01] Yes, tape punishment, the crack that is 2K.

[00:36:05] I'm itching baby.

[00:36:06] Let me explain something to you, Brian.

[00:36:09] Joe Rogan, Joe Rogan.

[00:36:11] When it comes to 2K baby, I would do almost anything.

[00:36:16] Okay.

[00:36:17] I sell a baby for 2K.

[00:36:19] Like people, my, my, my Kim folk out here, like I know people that's gambling

[00:36:23] for 2K right now.

[00:36:24] They on DraftKings and doing all they'll call their Italian friends again,

[00:36:30] go back to the mobster to do anything to rig a game just to pay for 2K.

[00:36:35] And I'm part of it, man.

[00:36:37] I'm not judging.

[00:36:38] I'm saluting and it looks beautiful.

[00:36:40] But it's been, it's going to be a journey.

[00:36:42] You know what I'm saying?

[00:36:43] And I appreciate any support that you can give me through this time.

[00:36:47] I gave myself a timeframe until December.

[00:36:50] I just spent way too much money last year.

[00:36:53] So I wanted to shout out a couple of YouTubers, you know,

[00:36:55] like all cities doing a no money spent.

[00:36:58] Grind, anonymous TV, brutal Sam, Jai EZ,

[00:37:03] like some YouTubers that I fool with.

[00:37:06] I'm a definitely be checking out, you know,

[00:37:09] my cousin DZD might be streaming.

[00:37:11] So I might link up with him on that.

[00:37:13] And I'm always keep my posts on the game because it's so much that that game

[00:37:17] offers that unless you're in the community and you're on that side of

[00:37:21] it is difficult for you to understand how you can spend that much money.

[00:37:24] But it has gotten to the point where, you know,

[00:37:26] I just got to stand on my word a little bit.

[00:37:28] Just to pay attention to chat real quick.

[00:37:31] No money or NMS, no money spent just had such a better inventory system

[00:37:35] than having your ship or NMS.

[00:37:38] No man's sky.

[00:37:39] So that's no man's sky.

[00:37:41] Okay, my fault.

[00:37:42] He's right.

[00:37:43] No money spent.

[00:37:44] It's got to weigh back on the inventory system.

[00:37:46] Okay.

[00:37:47] But how long did it take to get that?

[00:37:49] And Punish me on my game isn't going to deliver until Tuesday.

[00:37:53] My bad.

[00:37:54] My bad.

[00:37:55] Trial's meant STT triple OG Punishment Man.

[00:37:57] I know you look when I get on there,

[00:37:59] I'm going to need you this year too.

[00:38:01] You know what I'm saying?

[00:38:02] I'm going to be a December time when you're going to sell.

[00:38:05] But yeah, you said, but to go back because I'm over here saying no money spent

[00:38:10] getting things together.

[00:38:11] You saying no man's sky.

[00:38:13] Would you still get Starfield over no man's sky if you had a choice right now?

[00:38:18] No.

[00:38:20] No.

[00:38:21] Okay.

[00:38:22] Look, if you're looking for a space exploration game,

[00:38:25] I mean, depends on what you want, right?

[00:38:27] Because no man's sky is kind of like Minecraft in space.

[00:38:30] You can fly to different planets, build home base.

[00:38:32] Like Aaron said, it's got a better inventory system.

[00:38:34] You can explore, find different alien civilizations, alien creatures.

[00:38:38] You can look at dialogue as far as like translating alien script

[00:38:43] to find out what was going on.

[00:38:46] And if you want a much more casual experience, then Starfield's the way to go.

[00:38:52] That being said, 79.99 is quite a, or 69 or whatever, however much,

[00:38:57] that's quite a bit of money to ask.

[00:38:59] Yeah, I got it on games.

[00:39:00] Like, that's a hundred percent where I'm at.

[00:39:04] Yeah, he's right.

[00:39:05] No man's sky has a garbage story.

[00:39:07] You just ignore it.

[00:39:08] Aaron just said that in the chat.

[00:39:10] Absolutely has a garbage story.

[00:39:12] Starfield so far, I'm intrigued by the sci-fi elements of the story.

[00:39:16] We have an artifact that's found in space trying to figure out what it's doing.

[00:39:20] And I'm working for this group that's kind of,

[00:39:24] it's like a group being funded by some old rich white dudes.

[00:39:28] It's like kind of creepy getting into the woods, doing the dancing kind of stuff.

[00:39:33] Which, you know, I mean, I find that interesting.

[00:39:36] Like I'm like, yeah, sign me up.

[00:39:38] Let's find out what's going on in the universe with this dude,

[00:39:41] with this billionaire's money.

[00:39:43] He's funding the operation.

[00:39:45] Let's go.

[00:39:46] But it is, I'm glad I have it on games pass.

[00:39:51] I can't, I don't know if I would have liked this as much had a painful price for it.

[00:39:56] It's kind of the Diablo 4 element where it's like,

[00:39:59] I really enjoyed Diablo 4 to start, but I got about 30 hours into it.

[00:40:03] And I'm like, eh, I'm getting kind of bored.

[00:40:07] You know, it's not bad.

[00:40:09] But going back to 2K real quick, I'm excited for basketball season number one.

[00:40:13] I've been prepping myself for basketball and hockey season.

[00:40:16] Number two, I watched a couple of documentaries that I definitely recommend.

[00:40:21] I watched that Steph Curry documentary, underrated.

[00:40:25] That was good.

[00:40:26] That was really good.

[00:40:27] I agreed with a lot of the sentiment of that documentary.

[00:40:30] And then I watched the Kobe documentary, the 81 point game.

[00:40:34] Like that's still, that's still a great documentary.

[00:40:38] Yeah man, Steph Curry is an absolute American psycho.

[00:40:41] He's a go bro.

[00:40:42] He's a go.

[00:40:43] Like David, David, I've been watching him since Davidson.

[00:40:46] I love, you know how much I love basketball.

[00:40:48] That's why it's killing me not to be able to play 2K right now,

[00:40:51] 2K season, you know what I'm saying?

[00:40:53] And I'm saluting everybody that has already started the kuma take.

[00:40:56] Kuma take.

[00:40:58] Do your thing, get the bills.

[00:40:59] You know what I'm saying?

[00:41:01] And you know, Kobe, honestly man, I really just respected Kobe so much more as a man

[00:41:06] and a human being after his passing, his tragic passing.

[00:41:10] I partially, and I got a shout out A-Base Tohane's channel doing this thing with Street Fighter.

[00:41:15] We'll talk about that.

[00:41:16] But we were talking about how there are some aspects that are kind of dirty about corporate America to me.

[00:41:22] And I didn't feel comfortable all the way with Kobe as much as I am glad to hear and see.

[00:41:27] So far it looks like they're honoring him.

[00:41:29] But I'd be interested to see, you know, me being an old fart in a certain kind of way.

[00:41:35] Like I was around to watch the 81 point game and shacking how that all played out in the beat.

[00:41:40] So some of those documentaries, you know, it just the nostalgia is real cool.

[00:41:45] But it just, it does remind me, you know, to salute the great Kobe Bryant and the man he became.

[00:41:51] Like I just, I find sports or sports documentaries to watch instead of horror movies sometimes.

[00:41:56] Like I was watching the documentary on a hockey goalie last night where I was like, oh, this is fast.

[00:42:01] Well, you know, I love hockey, but it was like, you know, at the same time, like that's Steph Curry documentary.

[00:42:06] Like, oh man, that was, that was a good documentary too.

[00:42:10] You're like he is like you give the guy the ball, half court, whatever he can put it in.

[00:42:16] I mean, it reminds me a lot.

[00:42:17] That's the crazy thing.

[00:42:18] That's one of the things that's broken on 2k so far.

[00:42:21] They got people shooting with Steph Curry from behind, from behind the three pointer on the other side of the court.

[00:42:28] Dramming.

[00:42:29] Do you know how fucking annoying that is?

[00:42:33] It's a semi old.

[00:42:36] It's 2k head that's been playing 2k since its inception.

[00:42:40] So I'm gonna knock on fucking Michael.

[00:42:42] Since its inception, since 2k was born, I've been playing hardcore 2k to how annoying that would be that some casual could spend $150 fucking dollars to skip 40 levels, get on bands and shit.

[00:42:55] And shoot three pointers in my face from the other three points.

[00:42:59] That'd be so frustrating dude.

[00:43:00] Green in this for math course.

[00:43:03] Man, but you know what I'm saying?

[00:43:05] But that's why I say I can't be mad.

[00:43:07] I can't be mad at it.

[00:43:08] You know what I'm saying?

[00:43:09] It is what it is.

[00:43:10] Like I'll catch it.

[00:43:11] I can't when I get it, I'll stream it.

[00:43:13] I'll give my honest opinion just like I'm running through and just streaming Baldur's Gate 3 or whatever.

[00:43:20] You want to check that out whenever I'll be doing it from time to time.

[00:43:24] I know.

[00:43:25] I know Starfield is going to help me forward to that later on.

[00:43:28] Starfield and Baldur's Gate 3.

[00:43:31] All right.

[00:43:32] Starfield especially is going to help me with my anxiety watching hockey and basketball season because my Mavs are my stars always have a tendency to let me down.

[00:43:39] At some point.

[00:43:41] So at least I have something else to say.

[00:43:44] Baldur's gave up a good player Christian Wood man, but one thing is as far even though we getting old like this is kind of brought back to youth and this is how I want to thank you into the show.

[00:43:54] I know kind of to get into this, but when you told me like, you know how much of a teenage mutant Ninja Turtles fan I am?

[00:44:01] Yes.

[00:44:02] At my heart.

[00:44:03] Yes.

[00:44:04] I was a little bit of a core with drawers and kid and I, you know, I used to learn that I would draw with teenage mutant turtles.

[00:44:10] The 91 what is it?

[00:44:11] 91 film the original one.

[00:44:12] Yeah.

[00:44:13] The 91 film was the original.

[00:44:14] Yeah.

[00:44:15] Classy.

[00:44:16] Yeah.

[00:44:17] Just classic right.

[00:44:19] But I was hesitant in watching the new animated film directed or written by Seth Rogen.

[00:44:25] You I'm going to let you talk about it because you saw it twice before I got to see it and I just want to know your thoughts.

[00:44:32] And I saw this movie.

[00:44:33] Do you know how long it has been since I've gone to see the same movie twice in one weekend?

[00:44:41] I think the last time I did that was the matrix reloaded was because I just don't, I don't tend to rewatch movies.

[00:44:50] I don't tend to rewatch and there's been two movies this year that I've rewatched multiple times and that's number one is D&D.

[00:44:57] Number two is the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

[00:45:00] This this this game this that game.

[00:45:03] This movie is incredible.

[00:45:06] I don't know how to put it any other way.

[00:45:08] The humor is on point.

[00:45:09] The heart is on point.

[00:45:10] You got Jackie Chanis Splinter.

[00:45:12] You got incredible animation, incredible action sequences.

[00:45:16] You got Ice Cube is Superfly who just comes in with the coolest intro ever.

[00:45:21] I mean just fly it out.

[00:45:23] I don't know how to say it.

[00:45:24] I'm super fly like it just absolutely a beautiful movie.

[00:45:29] It captured the heart and spirit of what it felt like to be a kid again.

[00:45:32] I'm glad to see the turtles are still thriving in a new and different way.

[00:45:36] I'm looking forward to the sequel.

[00:45:38] I love the post credit scene.

[00:45:40] I mean everything about this, the voice acting.

[00:45:43] It's just everything about this man was just an absolute wonderful experience.

[00:45:48] It was a very, it had a lot of great references to the old material while still paving its own way.

[00:45:56] And it felt very much like in the one thing I'll give a credit for is this is the first time I've ever seen the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles actually feel like teenagers.

[00:46:06] They don't always understand the language of the teens today because I'm clearly I'm 37 years old.

[00:46:16] But you can still connect with what it's like to be a teenager.

[00:46:20] And I felt that hubris you have when you're a teen teenage boy is like you feel invincible as a teenage boy in a lot of ways.

[00:46:28] And that came across in this movie in a way that you're struggling with your parents, you're struggling to be independent, you're struggling to be yourself, you're struggling with love and growing up in the world.

[00:46:41] And that's really what it played so well as is both a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles story and a coming of age story.

[00:46:47] That's what was so cool about this is they did this kind of perfect balance.

[00:46:51] You know, it's my it's in my top five of the year.

[00:46:54] Not only did I see twice in theaters.

[00:46:56] I've watched it twice now that it's on home.

[00:46:58] Like I've like I turned it on and just let it play like whatever's going on.

[00:47:05] Look man when I'm gonna be honest, like I said, I prefaced it off.

[00:47:08] I'm a huge teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles fan is clearly of our era.

[00:47:12] Definitely my era.

[00:47:14] And even when you telling me, hey man, I went and spent money and went to the movies twice to see this.

[00:47:20] I was like, he might be going through a couple of little things.

[00:47:22] I don't know. Maybe just need to get the fuck out the house.

[00:47:24] When I finally watched it.

[00:47:27] I was glad I saw it in the theaters too.

[00:47:29] Just like you said, just to support the film and come to find out.

[00:47:33] I believe Fox this is like a throwaway Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

[00:47:36] This wasn't this was something that this is the reason why Seth Rogen can do anything.

[00:47:40] And I was immediately going to compare it to Spider-Man, a new Spider-Verse movie, which was a great movie.

[00:47:46] I enjoyed Spider-Verse as well.

[00:47:48] But I believe that thought saw it.

[00:47:51] I talked to the first thing I said is I think it's better than Spider-Man.

[00:47:54] The second one only because of the let down that I got in the second movie.

[00:47:58] They're both great.

[00:47:59] I love Spider-Man trying to downgrade Spider-Man.

[00:48:02] I'm just saying how much I personally surprisingly enjoyed the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles experiences.

[00:48:08] All the reasons like you said, even the things I wasn't expecting to enjoy.

[00:48:12] Like the April O'Neill story kind of switching it up at first.

[00:48:16] I was uncomfortable with it.

[00:48:17] But as it played out, it just made a whole lot more sense and even splinter.

[00:48:22] I wasn't quite comfortable with the story initially how that was going to go.

[00:48:27] But Jackie Chan is a treasure and a master.

[00:48:31] And he kind of brings it all the way together.

[00:48:33] And one thing that really stuck with me is you said, hey, you can tell from the martial arts in the film that is influenced by Jackie Chan.

[00:48:41] 100%

[00:48:42] History in those films and a thousand percent I'm with you on that.

[00:48:45] It means you're up on Jackie Chan.

[00:48:47] I feel like I need to see the credits.

[00:48:48] Like a thousand percent man.

[00:48:49] Yeah.

[00:48:50] Bruce Lee, hold on.

[00:48:51] I can't wait for the Bruce Lee anime.

[00:48:52] But Jackie Chan, I would love to see the names on the like film direction as far as like the martial, the actual fighting direction.

[00:49:00] I would not be surprised if he was all over it.

[00:49:02] The art style was a little bit bad.

[00:49:05] I thought it was going to be just like Spider-Man, but it had his own little tone to it.

[00:49:09] It had more little me on to a little cyberpunk to it.

[00:49:12] It stuck to the grit of like that New York hip hop kind of birth.

[00:49:16] The soundtrack.

[00:49:18] The dirtiness of the sewer of everything of Teenage Mutant Turtles with the original was so yeah, I was definitely say like for families, friends, anybody that would listen to something like this over the years.

[00:49:29] Like this overall pop culture.

[00:49:31] If you haven't got a chance to check it out, please just check that out, especially not a desire on digital.

[00:49:37] Yeah, like I bought it digitally and answer your question.

[00:49:42] And then I'm buying a physical copy.

[00:49:44] I mean really like you talked about with the art style feeling very 90s.

[00:49:48] Like it's got that 90s what I love about it too is it's got that 90s gross out feeling to it too.

[00:49:53] Like it really does like there's some pretty funny jokes in here that are just pure gross out humor.

[00:50:00] My favorite one is the the vomit scene with Phil Lorraine on your skin.

[00:50:07] I was dying bro.

[00:50:09] I was dying.

[00:50:10] Like I would say that wasn't my favorite, but it was I was skeptical about how Ice Cube was going to play out as Superfly.

[00:50:20] That could have played off kind of funny to me.

[00:50:22] I'm real funny like when like the movie Dober might came out at first.

[00:50:26] I was sensitive to in the mess of kind of way.

[00:50:28] I hated that move.

[00:50:29] It had to grow on me.

[00:50:30] So I was real funny.

[00:50:31] That was the reason why I pause.

[00:50:32] I was like here we go.

[00:50:33] I don't know that Ice Cube Superfly Baxter stock man.

[00:50:37] I'm a real fan.

[00:50:38] How are they going to bring us together?

[00:50:39] One of the best villains that I've seen ever the intro fit the way that they tie together all the villains and kind of made like

[00:50:49] with the plethora of villains that they had and how they tied it in kind of that made me feel the nostalgia of the original

[00:50:55] Teenage Mutant Turtles with the toys and how they used to have so many different kinds of music.

[00:51:00] It was just masterful how they put it together.

[00:51:02] I got a salute Seth Rogen.

[00:51:04] That's his second thing that surprised me this year where also he played Donkey Kong and Mario Brothers, which is a lot of fun.

[00:51:11] So yeah, like I would definitely suggest it's something for you to watch with your son.

[00:51:16] That is definitely something on a Sunday to watch after a game.

[00:51:19] Oh, 100%.

[00:51:20] Now I'll say this too about getting Paul Rudd in there, but then you had Post Malone in there.

[00:51:26] Oh sure.

[00:51:27] Like they got Paul Rudd, Post Malone, Emily Blunt, all kinds of people just like showing up in this movie in a good way.

[00:51:36] Like you said it was supposed to be this throwaway movie and now it's become like this huge success that can't be ignored.

[00:51:42] And that's kind of what it gets down to the point for me is when companies and film producers and video game producers kind of like do what's right by their audience.

[00:51:51] Like I got to give credit to Starfield going back to the original conversation.

[00:51:54] No microchains actions.

[00:51:55] Baldur's Gate 3, no microchains actions.

[00:51:58] Huge story play interactive.

[00:52:00] Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles coming out telling a real story about real teens who are just happening to be turtles in an animated world.

[00:52:06] It feels great.

[00:52:07] It's like a great coming of age story.

[00:52:09] Like I would put it up there with like, I don't think it's as good as something like Stand By Me, but it's still a great coming of age story.

[00:52:16] Right.

[00:52:17] And then you've got Dungeons and Dragons which feels like an 80s movie.

[00:52:23] And they do all these live effects right in front of the camera with these puppets and these animatronics that feel like when you do the things that you know work and when you do the way that, you know, the audiences are calling for.

[00:52:38] Because you look at Baldur's Gate 3 and you look at Starfield.

[00:52:41] People were mad about microchains actions.

[00:52:43] These two games come out without microchains actions.

[00:52:46] People wanted movies that felt original in a way that even though Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is based off of long running property, felt very original.

[00:52:55] D&D was very original and they were supposed to be throw away.

[00:52:58] If you remember Todd, D&D, Honor Among Thieves and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles were supposed to be throw away movies.

[00:53:07] They weren't supposed to be big.

[00:53:09] Dungeons and Dragons dropped in March.

[00:53:12] Let me tell you what you just did so perfectly and just graciously.

[00:53:16] You know what you did?

[00:53:17] You brought it all together like booty cheeks, man.

[00:53:20] Pause.

[00:53:21] You know what I'm saying?

[00:53:22] You brought it all together because that's it.

[00:53:23] It was like they give like even with Starfield, I can see I haven't had a chance to play yet.

[00:53:28] No microchains actions.

[00:53:29] I'm on board with checking it out.

[00:53:31] Period.

[00:53:32] Just to get full experiences.

[00:53:34] I got to get this in Chess Day in Aaron's Basis, we chatted at the homie and you know the STT tribe.

[00:53:40] But it sounds like all they were missing was Henry Cavill.

[00:53:42] Pretty much.

[00:53:43] Pretty much.

[00:53:44] That's kind of all that was missing was Henry Cavill.

[00:53:47] It's, I mean, and it's, I think we're getting back to the point and I'll put it like this where I think we're missing and we're starting to realize, hey, we were missing the fun from entertainment for a long time because, you know, a lot of these, a lot of these for a long time.

[00:54:03] Since the dark night, it's really kind of been about grit and I love the dark night.

[00:54:08] But there's a lot of grittiness.

[00:54:10] The dark night walking dead, breaking bad.

[00:54:12] When you look at general entertainment, but what do I see this year coming out more than anything?

[00:54:17] Baldur's Gate 3, Starfield, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Barbie, Dungeons and Dragons.

[00:54:22] I see fun.

[00:54:23] That's what I'm saying.

[00:54:25] Oppenheimer wasn't fun, but it was interesting.

[00:54:28] But I see fun.

[00:54:30] I see that we're wanting fun back in our entertainment, which is how it should be.

[00:54:35] I mean, that's where some of it should be serious.

[00:54:37] It should be a good balance, but you can't go one way or the other.

[00:54:40] And I'm seeing a lot more entertaining stuff come out this year than big pictures.

[00:54:45] Now that'll be said Barbie was fun.

[00:54:47] I'll give you that.

[00:54:48] I think we're starting to get more classic American cultural films, maybe not so much more populist entertainment.

[00:54:58] I think some things are starting to come more purely back home and that is something that is encouraging.

[00:55:05] And it's like that.

[00:55:06] That's my, you know, take away from the conversation today.

[00:55:09] As far as like generally speaking, everything we talked about, like even 2K man, I'm telling you even 2K looks amazing.

[00:55:17] Last year, the game play, I felt it.

[00:55:19] I know what it feels like in my hands, bro.

[00:55:21] I know what that credit.

[00:55:22] Come on, Joe Rogan.

[00:55:24] Let me tell you something about me.

[00:55:26] I was okay baby.

[00:55:28] I had a 35 minutes conversation with that dude last night.

[00:55:31] So even that looks good, even with the crazy just extremity of Michael transaction.

[00:55:36] It looks good as far as at least the community is becoming more conscious and aware.

[00:55:40] It's not even about not being able to go out and spend a bag on experiences you want to spend experiences on.

[00:55:45] You can go into a game of transactions, Michael transactions.

[00:55:48] It's about being conscious of it and it not being like a drug where you spending $1,000 on a game.

[00:55:54] You don't even realize it.

[00:55:56] That's the problem.

[00:55:58] I mean, so just to be grateful for those things that you're not going to get all the time.

[00:56:03] The decade games like a barbers gate three that are going to give you the old school Nintendo you paid for price for a game.

[00:56:10] This is the game.

[00:56:11] She codes everything in it enabled and all good but you know, it's just it's just nice.

[00:56:18] It's a nice time to still be alive man.

[00:56:20] You know, all things pop culture and it's a reminder.

[00:56:23] So oh, it's pretty much all I got one last recommendation and I got it for you and I got it for the tribe.

[00:56:30] It's for Halloween spooky seasons coming up.

[00:56:36] Always got to recommend movies.

[00:56:37] Favorite time of year.

[00:56:38] My favorite time of year.

[00:56:41] The movie is called cobweb.

[00:56:45] It's out on demand right now.

[00:56:47] It got dropped to very little fanfare.

[00:56:51] Nobody paid attention to it.

[00:56:53] The advertising the trailers were horrendous.

[00:56:55] They didn't do a good job.

[00:56:57] Perfect Halloween movie.

[00:56:59] Perfect Halloween movie.

[00:57:00] It's called cobweb.

[00:57:01] It came out theaters for like a week and then disappeared.

[00:57:05] But this is Todd when I tell you this reminded me of oh, what is it people under the stairs?

[00:57:12] It's not as good as fun, but it's still good.

[00:57:16] You know what I mean?

[00:57:17] Like it's worked the one time.

[00:57:19] Like if you like people under the stairs, if you like 80s are go watch cobweb.

[00:57:24] The ending got me a little bit like eh, not great, but 95% of the movie you're going to have a good time.

[00:57:32] Cool deal man.

[00:57:34] I'm sure you know I'll check it out ever since you suggested terrifier.

[00:57:38] It's fucked up.

[00:57:39] It is in Psycho Gourman.

[00:57:41] I'm on board, but I really got to thank everybody in the chat man.

[00:57:46] That's definitely showing big love from the STT triple OGs in the skip to tutorial tribe.

[00:57:52] You know we'll have the links with the podcast just nothing else for nostalgia purposes and stuff.

[00:57:57] It'll be on all platforms like Spotify, Apple, POP bean anchor probably all that other kind of stuff.

[00:58:03] But Aaron again, Dewey, Raleigh, Punishment, Bossman.

[00:58:08] The list goes on and on for the original people.

[00:58:12] Why we do this still man?

[00:58:14] Holding things together at them.

[00:58:16] Hopefully you check it out on the back end.

[00:58:19] What else we got?

[00:58:22] What else we got?

[00:58:23] Is there anyone missing something my boy?

[00:58:24] That's it man.

[00:58:25] That's all we got this week.

[00:58:27] And as we always do before we sign off, stay humble.

[00:58:31] Stay humble.
